Abstract:
To provide a method for the catalytic production of γ-butyrolactone.
A γ-butyrolatone of general formula (R1 and R2 are each a substituent of the butyrolactone) is produced by the catalytic reaction of an olefin of general formula R1CHCH2 with a carboxylic acid of general formula R2CH2COOH in contact with a manganese-containing catalyst in the presence of oxygen.
