To provide a method for producing a blank for gear capable of securing the service life of a tool without any problems to be mass-produced even in the case of cutting the gear at the high speed of ≥200 m/min by dry-cutting without using a coolant, and to provide a method for producing the gear using this blank.
The blank for forging, composed of a hot-rolled steel material containing by mass% of 0.15-0.30% C, ≤0.5% Si, 0.20-1.50% Mn, ≤0.03% P, ≤0.035% S, 0.30-2.00% Cr, 0.010-0.060% Al, 0.0080-0.0250% N, ≤0.015% O and if necessary, containing further, Mo and Ca and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, is heated to 1,100-1,350°C and hot-forged and thereafter, a bainite transformation is completed during cooling and successively, heated and held to 620-750°C for 20 min-3 hr. A gear-cutting tool is desirable to use a cemented-carbide K sort alloy.
