Abstract:
To produce a glycol from a saccharide by using a catalyst containing palladium.SOLUTION: A method for producing a glycol includes the step of treating a raw material containing a saccharide in water in the presence of a catalyst containing palladium and hydrogen with a pressure of 1 MPa or more. The catalyst preferably further contains lanthanoid. The saccharide is preferably at least one of xylose, glucose, sucrose, and fructose. Preferably, the raw material is treated in water in the presence of hydrogen with a pressure of 1 MPa or more and 3 MPa or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
