PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially stably producing a grain oriented silicon steel sheet in which variation in magnetic properties is remarkably reduced, and having satisfactory characteristics.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a grain oriented silicon steel sheet in which, when a grain oriented silicon steel sheet is produced from a steel slab having a composition comprising, by mass, C: 0.08% or lower, Si: 2.0 to 4.5%, Mn: 0.5% or lower, S, Se and O: below 50 ppm, respectively, and sol.Al: below 100 ppm, in which N is controlled to the range of [sol.Al]×(14/27) ppm≤N≤80 ppm, and comprising Sb and P so as to satisfy 0.01%≤Sb≤0.50% and 0.1×[Sb]%≤P≤2.0×[Sb]%, respectively, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, the temperature in the final cold rolling of cold rolling is controlled to the range of 150 to 250°C and the draft is controlled to the range of 84 to 92%, after cold rolling, before the start of the secondary recrystallization annealing, nitriding treatment in which the amount of nitrogen reaches 50 to 1,000 ppm is performed, and in the temperature rising step of the secondary recrystallization annealing, the temperature is controlled to 300 to 800°C, and the resident time is controlled to 5 hr or higher.
