To provide a method for efficiently producing grained artificial leather having excellent air permeability.

The method for producing the grained artificial leather is characterized as follows. A film layer composed of a polyurethane resin and having 2-10 μm thickness and 500-3,000 N/cm2 100% modulus is transferred onto a fibrous substrate composed of ultrafine fibers and a polymeric elastomer and a rubbing treatment is then carried out. Furthermore, the rubbing treatment is preferably a liquid flow treatment and the polyurethane resin is preferably an amino acid-modified polyurethane resin.
