Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide filter housings having good quality and sealability by arranging a skirt around the housings holding the filter and melting this skirt when injection molding an overmold around the housings.
CONSTITUTION: After a porous filter element 12 is aligned between the two housings 14 and 16, the thermoplastic skirt 24 is arranged adjacently to the peripheral edge of the second housing 14 so as to enclose the entire peripheral edge of this filter element 12. Pressure is applied to both housings 14 and 16 and the overmold 18 of thermoplastic material is injection molded from above the circumferences of the skirt 24 and the housings 14 and 16. The skirt 24 is then melted as well by the temperature and pressure of the injection molded overmold 18 and is mixed with the overmold 18, by which the melt is infiltrated into the edge of the filter element 12 and the filter is sealed.
