Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, in a cumene method phenol production process, a method in which high purity phenol, α-methyl styrene and cumene are conveniently obtained with good efficiency.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for obtaining phenol, α-methyl styrene and cumene in which a fraction containing phenol, α-methyl styrene and cumene is obtained by acid-decomposing cumene hydroperoxide to produce phenol and acetone, followed by obtaining the phenol and the acetone to leave a heavy component, and by thermally decomposing the heavy component to produce a thermal decomposition product and distillating the thermal decomposition product to obtain a fraction containing phenol, α-methyl styrene and cumene that were contained in the thermal decomposition product, and in which, it is characterized, in the distillation, a light-boiling content is removed from a column top, a heavy content is removed from the column bottom, as well as a fraction containing phenol, α-methyl styrene and cumene is obtained from a column middle part.
