To provide a method for producing a high workability electric welded steel tube which has no local variation in workability, has excellent secondary workability, and is applicable for an electric welded steel tube using an extra low carbon steel sheet in a wide compositional range as the stock.
A steel sheet having a composition containing, by mass, 0.001 to 0.02% C, ≤0.4% Si, 0.1 to 2.0% Mn, ≤0.04% P, ≤0.04% S and ≤0.1% Sol.Al is roll-formed into a tubular shape, and both edge parts of the steel sheet are subjected to butt welding by a high frequency welding method. In this production method, the welding is performed so that the width of the heat affected zone in the electric resistance welded tube is controlled to ≤1 mm per side with a weld line as the center in the center of the sheet thickness.
