To provide a method for producing a hydrocarbon oil attaining all of the following aims: suppression of heat generation due to reaction, inhibition of energy loss, reduction of the amount of the dilution medium to be used, and suppression of corrosion of an apparatus and equipment.
A plurality of reaction zones 8a, 8b and 8c, filled with a particular catalyst, are arranged in series, and in each reaction zone 8a, 8b, 8c, a raw material oil, containing a particular amount of the resulting recycled hydrocarbon oil and a particular amount of a sulfur-containing hydrocarbon compound, which comprises an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon compound derived from an animal and vegetable oil is subjected to hydrogenation treatment under conditions wherein hydrogen pressure is 1 MPa or more and less than 10 MPa, and gas and water are removed from the resulting treated material, to obtain a hydrocarbon oil. In the plurality of reaction zones, an inlet temperature of the reaction zone 8a located at the uppermost stream side is 150C or higher and 250C or lower, an inlet temperature of the reaction zone 8b located at the second upstream or lower side is equal to or higher than the condensation temperature of water, and an outlet temperature of the reaction zone 8c located at the downmost stream side is 260C or higher and 360C or lower.
