To provide a hydrogen storage alloy electrode, having highly efficient discharge characteristics and improved low-temperature discharge characteristics by preventing re-precipitation of metal ions dissolved in a surface treatment liquid.
A method of producing the hydrogen storage alloy electrode comprises the processes of dissolving the power surface of a hydrogen storage alloy in the surface treatment liquid and of cleaning the hydrogen storage, alloy having the dissolved powder surface with an alkaline solution of 30-40 degrees C. Since the metallic ions dissolved in the surface treatment liquid can be completely cleaned with the alkaline solution, the dissolved metal ions are precluded from being re-formed into hydroxide and precipitated on the hydrogen storage alloy surface. In this case, when the temperature of the alkaline solution for cleaning exceeds 40 degrees C, not only hydroxide but also alloy components are eluted, and so the temperature is kept at 40 degrees C or lower. When the temperature of the alkaline solution for cleaning is 30 degrees C or lower, sufficient cleaning effect is not exhibited, so that the temperature must be kept at 30 degrees C or higher.
