Abstract:
To provide an inexpensive and simple method for producing β-hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone.
A vinylacetic acid represented by general formula (1) is reacted with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid catalyst having a sulfonic acid group to afford the β-hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone represented by general formula (2).
