To provide a method for producing an indene-containing polymer and to obtain a molded material, a film or an additive using the indene- containing polymer excellent in low water absorbency, etc., and a component for an optical use using the obtained material.
This method for producing the indene-containing polymer comprises adding a diol compound and/or a diamine compound to the total of a monomer component (a) which is 5-99.5 pts.wt. of indene or an indene-based monomer represented by general formula (I) and a monomer component (b) which is 0.5-95 pts.wt. of a monomer represented by general formula (II) [wherein, R1 to R8 denote substituents containing one or more kinds of H, halogen atom or the like; n is an integer of 1-4 in (I) and an integer of 1-5 in (II); and R5 and R8 may be same or different when the n is a plural number in either cases.] in an amount of 100 pts.wt. in an aromatic organic solvent and/or a halogenated organic solvent between the time when a cationic polymerizing reaction is started and the time when the monomer is consumed in the reaction after the cationic polymerizing reaction is started.
