To provide a method for profitably producing an indolenine compound, by which the indolenine compound useful as the basic raw material for polymethine dyes used as sensitizing dyes, dyes for photorecording media, or photothermal conversion dyes can be produced in a high purity and in a high yield, to provide an anilinoketone compound useful as an intermediate for producing indolenine compounds, and to provide a method for producing the compound.
This method for producing the indolenine compound represented by formula (III) (R1 and R2 are each H, a halogen atom, an alkyl which may have a substituent, or an alkoxy which may have a substituent, or R1 and R2 may be bound to each other to form a cyclic structure), characterized by reacting an aromatic amine with 3-bromo-3-methylbutan-2-one in the presence of a base to form the anilinoketone compound represented by formula (II), and then subjecting the formed anilinoketone compound to a hydrative condensation in the presence of an acid catalyst.
