To provide a method for producing laurolactam solving a problem of a large amount of sulfonic acid loss or a large energy loss by producing the laurolactam with the Beckmann rearrangement of cyclododecanone oxime by using a catalytic amount of methane sulfonic acid.
The methane sulfonic acid and zinc chloride are found to show extremely high catalytic activity in the Beckmann rearrangement of the cyclododecanone oxime to be able to produce the laurolactam in a high yield. The problem of the large amount of sulfonic acid loss or large energy loss can be solved thereby. The method for producing the laurolactam by the Beckmann rearrangement of the cyclododecanone oxime is characterized by using the catalytic amount of the methane sulfonic acid and zinc chloride.
