Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve Mn yield at low temp. by controlling cooling water quantity in a cooler set to a reaction vessel at the time of producing medium or low carbon ferro-manganese from high carbon ferro-manganese with decarbonizing method.

CONSTITUTION: In decarbonizing-refining by charging a molten high carbon ferro-manganese 9 into the reaction vessel 1 and blowing oxygen-containing gas 7 on the molten metal surface from a top blowing lance 5 and also blowing inert gas 8 from a bottom blowing tuyere 6 in the reaction vessel 1, the cooler 2 is set at upper wall part in the reaction vessel 1, and by controlling cooling water quantity, molten metal temp. is controlled. By this method, the medium or low carbon ferro-manganese can be produced from the raw material containing manganese ore as the essential component at the low temp. under a high Mn yield condition.
