Abstract:

To obtain a norbornene derivative, in which the production amounts of a trimer, a tetramer and oligomer components of cyclopentadiene which can be produced as by-products by decomposition and polymerization of cyclopentadiene dimer when carrying out Diels-Alder reaction of a cyclopentadiene dimer with dienophile are reduced, in a high yield and high purity.

The method for producing the norbornene derivative comprises carrying out Diels-Alder reaction of a compound containing an allyl group having a weakly electron attractive functional group with an alkylcyclopentadiene dimer.
