Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING OCTENE BY DIMERIZING ETHYLENE TO FORM BUTENE AND DIMERIZING BUTENE TO FORM OCTENE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2013136576
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method for producing octene, which does not use, as a raw material in octene synthesis, a C4 fraction which needs a purification step for removing a nitrogen-containing, oxygen-containing or sulfur-containing polar compound that is dimerization poison and catalyst poison.

The method includes: dimerizing ethylene by use of a titanium-based catalyst or a catalyst system composed of a nickel compound and an aluminum compound to form butene; and dimerizing the butene in the presence of a catalyst system including a nickel complex or a mixture of the nickel complex to form octene. The ethylene dimerizing step and the butene dimerizing step are performed without performing purification step in between, and n-butene obtained by the dimerizing is free from isobutene and butane.
