Abstract:

To provide a method that suppresses by-production of an olefin polymer and enables selective production of an olefin multimer with high activity and, particularly when using ethylene, to provide a method that enables efficient production of 1-octene (a tetramer).SOLUTION: An olefin multimerization reaction is performed in the presence of an olefin multimerization catalyst that comprises: a chromium compound (A); an amine compound (B) of general formula (1); and a compound (C) obtained by contacting a magnesium halide compound with an alcohol, which are thereafter contacted with an organic aluminum. (R1-R4 each denote a group such as a hydrocarbon group, Y is a structure represented by -CR5R6-, R5 and R6 each denote a group such as a hydrogen atom, Z is an integer of 1-10).SELECTED DRAWING: None
