To provide an optical element having a large difference in refractive indices between an irradiated part and a non-irradiated part by femtosecond laser irradiation.
This method for producing the optical element by irradiating a femtosecond laser at the inside of an optical polymer structure to change the refractive index of the irradiated part is provided with that the optical polymer structure consists of a mixture containing a parent material and an additive, and the difference of the refractive indices between the parent material and additive is 0.07. Also, a preferable mode is that when the mixing ratio of the additive to the parent material is 10 mass% and the thickness of the optical polymer structure is 0.1 mm, its visible light transmittance is 80%.
