Abstract:

To provide a method for producing an optically active 2-aminobutyric acid simply and in good yield without necessitating a special facility.

A method for producing an optically active 2-aminobutyric acid includes: a step of heating 2-aminobutyric acid in the coexistence of an optically active tartaric acid and an aldehyde in an organic solvent such as a 2-propanol/methanol mixed solvent to thereby obtain a diastereomer salt of an optically active 2-aminobutyric acid and the optically active tartaric acid; and a step of adding an amine or the like to the diastereomer to thereby separate the optically active 2-aminobutyric acid.
