Abstract:

To provide a method for simply and efficiently producing optically active 3-amino-(2-hydroxyaryl)propionic acids and their esters which are useful as pharmaceutical intermediates, particularly as the inhibitors of integrin reptors.

The optically active 3-amino-(2-hydroxyaryl)propionic acids and their esters are produced from a 3-(2-hydroxyaryl)-3-oxopropionic acid or its ester and an optically active 2-amino-2-substituted arylphenylethane compound by four steps of (a) imination or enamination, (b) stereoselective reduction, (c) elimination of the substituent on nitrogen, and (d) hydrolysis or transesterification.
