To efficiently obtain a (R)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid and a (S)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic ester, and the corresponding N-acyl-(R)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid by the use of the (R)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid as the raw material.
Both the (R)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid and the (S)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic ester are obtained by subjecting the optical isomer mixture of a 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic ester to a microorganism-derived esterase. The other objective N-acyl-(R)-5,5- dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid is obtained by reacting the (R)-5,5- dimethyl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid as the raw material with an acylating agent.
