To provide a method for producing an optically active amino acid simply and in good yield without necessitating a special facility.
A method for producing an optically active amino acid simply and in good yield includes: making an amino acid, an optically active carboxylic acid and an aldehyde coexist in an organic solvent; and thereafter adding an amine in one-pot without isolating a diastereomer salt of the amino acid and the carboxylic acid.
