Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate handling in Friedel-Crafts' reaction.
SOLUTION: A rotor, benzyl chloride (84.0 mg, 0.664 mmol) and benzene (10.0 mL) are inserted into an autoclave, and the resultant autoclave is pressurized to 10 atm by introducing carbon monoxide. The pressurized autoclave is heated at 130°C for 10 hr by using a heater for the autoclave, and the autoclave after heating is cooled by ice water. The gas in a cooled vessel is released in a draft chamber. As a result, diphenylmethane (2a) having a purity nearly equal to the pure material can be obtained by only concentrating the reaction solution.
