To provide a technique for producing characteristic paper, especially strong paper, by efficiently preparing characteristic pulp by applying the technology of fiber classification and using the pulp.

The method for producing paper includes the steps of: classifying pulp slurry including Kraft pulp into a filament fraction and a short fiber fraction by using a screen, in which classification is conducted so that the solid content ratio of the filament fraction and the short fiber fraction is 10:90 to 70:30 and the Canadian Standard Freeness of the short fiber fraction is reduced by 5% or more compared with the pulp slurry before the classification; adding an additive for making paper to the filament fraction and/or the short fiber fraction; and then making paper using pulp slurry of the filament fraction and/or the short fiber fraction to which the additive for making paper is added.
