To provide a method and apparatus for producing partially-reduced iron suitable as a raw material to be charged into a blast furnace, by quickly reducing agglomerated ore incorporating a reducing material while a moving layer containing the agglomerated ore incorporating the reducing material is formed using a vertical type shaft furnace.
The agglomerated ore 6 incorporating the reducing material is mixed with metal-ceramic ball 8 preheated with a heating device 2, and the mixture is charged from the furnace top part of the vertical type shaft furnace 1 to form the moving layer 14 dropped down in the furnace. In a reducing zone 15 at the upper part in the furnace, the agglomerated ore incorporating the reducing material is heat-reduced with the heat-transmission from the metal-ceramic ball to produce the partially-reduced iron 18. In a cooling zone 16 at the lower part in the furnace, the partially-reduced iron is cooled with a cooling device 9 and also, cooled with cooling gas 12 blown from the lowest part of the furnace, and the partially-reduced iron and the metal-ceramic ball are separated and discharged from the furnace bottom part.
