To provide a method for producing a polyalkenyl acylating agent, while decreasing a fouling level of a reactor.
This batch-wise reaction method for producing the polyalkenyl acylating agent includes reacting at least one polyalkene with at least one monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid or a compound forming an acid anhydride thereof at a reaction temperature of about 180°C to about 300°C, wherein a reaction mixture thereof is cooled to a temperature at which a rate of the reaction of the polyalkene with the monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid or the compound forming the acid anhydride thereof is about 40% or less based on a peak rate of the reaction, when the reaction is substantially completed, and then an additional amount of the monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid or the compound forming the acid anhydride thereof is added to the cooled reaction mixture, and further the obtained mixture is held in the reactor during a period in which tar of the reactor is solubilized.
