To provide a method for producing polyester film with extremely few deposited coarse asperities on its surface attributable to a catalytic metal.
The polyester film is made from a polyethylene terephthalate resin composition. The polyethylene terephthalate resin composition has 0.5-7.0 mol/106g of terminal methyl groups and contains an alkaline earth metal compound, a phosphorus compound and a titanium compound soluble in the polymer so as to meet the relationships(1) to (3), i.e. (1) 30≤M≤120, (2) 0.4≤P/M≤1.5, and (3) 2≤Ti≤20 ( wherein, M, P and Ti are the molar concentrations(mmol%) of the elemental alkaline earth metal, the elemental phosphorus in the phosphorus compound and the elemental titanium metal in the titanium compound, respectively ), and is <40°C in the difference between the temperature-rising crystallization peak temperature determined at a temperature-rising rate of 20°C/min and the temperature-falling crystallization peak temperature determined at a temperature-falling rate of 10°C/min from the molten state.
