To provide a method for efficiently producing polyhydroxyurethane having high mol. wt. at a low temperature and in a short time.
This method for producing the polyhydroxyurethane, comprising subjecting a mixture of a carbonate monomer having at least two five-membered ring circular carbonate groups in the molecule with an amine monomer having at least two amino groups selected from primary amino groups and secondary amino groups in the molecule to a polymerization reaction, is characterized by performing the polymerization reaction in the presence of a catalyst selected from base catalysts consisting of tertiary amines, alkali metal salts, quaternary ammonium salts, alkaline earth metal salts and carbonates, and Lewis acid catalysts consisting of tin compounds.
