To solve the problem that the hybrid prepared by a conventional method is inferior in thermal stability, causes phase separation and also affects mechanical properties of a hybrid product because the hybrid by the conventional method has no chemical bond formed between a macromolecule and silica, and no description about the formation of a stable covalent bond is not provided.
The polyimidazole-silica hybrid is produced by copolymerizing vinylimidazole and a vinyl group-containing alkoxysilane in an organic solvent (i), and adding water and an organic solvent (ii) solution of a trialkoxysilane and/or a tetraalkoxysilane by a sol-gel method. As a result, the silica is covalently bonded and the polyimidazole-silica hybrid containing the homogeneously compounded silica can be produced. Further, the hybrid having different weight ratio of the organic part to the inorganic part can be readily produced by regulating the amount of the tetraalkoxysilane or the like to be added.
