To provide a method for producing a polylactic acid resin composition for an electrophotographic toner that prevents hydrolytic degradation from occurring during storage for improved storage stability.

The method for manufacturing a polylactic acid resin for an electrophotographic toner includes: a step for preparing a modified polylactic acid resin having a number average molecular weight of 3,000-10,000 by hydrolyzing a polylactic acid resin having a number average molecular weight of 10,000 or more in an alkaline aqueous solution of pH8-12 under heated and pressurized conditions; and a step for preparing a polylactic acid resin composition by mixing the modified polylactic acid resin and a hydrolysis inhibitor of 1-10 mass% relative to the modified polylactic acid resin.
