Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the production of a polymer having a controlled molecular weight using an environmentally friendly, new polymerization control agent that is free from the problems with an odor, corrosiveness, and hygroscopicity.SOLUTION: This invention provides a method for the production of a polymer in which a polymerization control agent having a condensed polycyclic aromatic skeleton (quinone skeleton) is added continuously or sequentially, for the radical polymerization of a radical-polymerizable compound using a radical polymerization initiator. The polymerization control agent may be substituted with a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an aralkyl group, a hydroxy group, alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, a halogen atom, or an amino group.
