To provide a method for efficiently producing a polysaccharide derivative in high productivity.
The method for producing the polysaccharide derivative involves reacting a polysaccharide or a lower alkyl or a hydroxy lowr alkyl substitution product thereof with an epoxy compound or the like selected from (a) a glycidyl ether having a 10-40C alkyl group or the like, (b) an epoxyalkanesulfonic acid or the like, (c) an epoxy fatty acid or the like, (d) an epoxyalkylamine or the like, (e) an epoxyalkyl phosphate or the like and (f) a polyoxyalkylation agent represented by the general formula: E3-(OA)n-E2-R [wherein, E3 is a 3-6C epoxidized alkyl group or the like; n is a number of 8-300; A's are the same or different and each a 1-6C divalent saturated hydrocarbon group; E2 is an ether bond or an oxycarbonyl group; and R is a 4-30C alkyl group which may be substituted with a hydroxy group].
