To provide a method of producing a powdered material made from tea-leaves as a raw material, making it possible to prevent active components of the tea-leaves from decreasing, and further making it possible to prevent added active components from decreasing, when the added active components, such as catechin, are added to the tea-leaves for the purpose of reinforcing the active components, and to provide tablets made of the powdered material.
This method of producing the powdered material made from tea-leaves as the raw material comprises a steaming process for steaming raw tea-leaves so as to prevent components of the tea-leaves from fermenting, a forming process for crumpling the steamed tea-leaves and simultaneously drying the leaves stepwise to form flat-shaped tea-leaf flakes having no strongly-twisted parts, and a pulverizing process for pulverizing the flat-shaped tealeaf flakes. The method preferably comprises the above steaming process, a dispersing process for adding the active components for the reinforcement to the tea-leaves prepared in the steaming process then crumpling the tea-leaves and simultaneously dispersing the added components into the tea-leaves, a modified forming process for further crumpling the dispersed tea-leaves prepared in the dispersing process and simultaneously drying the leaves stepwise to form flat-shaped tea-leaf flakes having no strongly-twisted parts, and the above pulverizing process. The tablets made of the powdered material made from the tea-leaves as the raw material are obtained by tableting the powdered material which is made from the tea-leaves as a raw material through the above method.
