To provide a method for stably producing propylene oxide from cumene hydroperoxide and propylene in high yield at a low cost.
The production method contains the following steps and a part of the reaction product produced by the cumene recovery step is recycled to the propylene oxide separation step. The oxidation step comprising the oxidation of cumene to produce cumene peroxide, the epoxidation step to react the cumene hydroperoxide with propylene and obtain propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol, the propylene recovery step to recover unreacted propylene from the reaction liquid obtained by the epoxidation step, the propylene oxide separation step to separate propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol by the distillation of the epoxidation reaction liquid left after recovering the unreacted propylene, and the cumene recovery step to convert the cumyl alcohol obtained by the epoxidation step into cumene, purify the cumene and recycle to the oxidation step.
