This method for producing the pyridine aldehyde compound represented by general formula (3): ArCHO (3) (Ar is pyridyl group which may have a substituent) is characterized by reducing a pyridine ester compound represented by general formula (1): ArCO2X (1) (X is a 1 to 4C alkyl) with a sodium bisalkoxyaminoaluminum hydride represented by general formula (2): Na(Y)2Al(NR1R2)H (2) (two Y groups are the same as or different from each other and each a 1 to 4C alkoxy; R1 and R2 are each a 1 to 4C alkyl; R1 and R2 may bind to each other together with the nitrogen atom bound to R1 and R2 to form a six-membered saturated heterogeneous ring; the heterogeneous ring may have a substituent) in an amount of 0.9 to 5 times moles that of the pyridine ester compound.
