Abstract:

To provide a method of producing reduced iron by which a briquette can be efficiently irradiated with a microwave and metallization with the irradiation of the microwave can be further promoted.

There is provided a method of producing reduced iron in which a burner arranged in a solid reducing furnace and radiant heat from a furnace wall of the solid reducing furnace are used as heat sources, and the reduced iron is produced by heating a briquette formed by mixing iron ore raw material and reducing material. In the method, a microwave with which the briquette is irradiated is further used as the heating sources, and the briquette is irradiated with the microwave in the solid reducing furnace when the internal temperature of the briquette is at least in the temperature range of 600-1,150°C.
