To provide a method using no hexane as the extraction solvent of rice bran oil, capable of obtaining as a byproduct a defatted bran containing no harmful component, and producing rice bran oil containing γ-oryzanol of a further higher concentration.
By adding not hexane but ethanol (biomass ethanol) to rice bran, polar materials such as γ-oryzanol of a functional component contained in the rice bran are extracted together with rice bran oil (at the time, defatted bran is obtained), then, the ethanol is distilled to separate glucide from oil containing functional components such as γ-oryzanol, and further, by adding water-ethanol to the oil, the oil can be separated into an ethanol layer (alcohol dissolution layer) containing much polar components such as γ-oryzanol and the rice bran oil containing none of the polar components. Thereafter, by distilling the solvent of the ethanol layer, the rice bran oil (crude rice bran oil) enriched in functional components such γ-oryzanol can be obtained.
