Abstract:

To produce high purity shwertmannite in short period of time and in high yield.

A method for producing shwertmannite includes a heating step of heating an aqueous solution of Fe2(SO4)3-nH2O (n: an integer of 1-50) to 60-95C, and a deposition step of depositing shwertmannite by adding a pH adjuster comprising an alkali metal-containing weakly basic salt to the heated aqueous solution so that the aqueous solution is adjusted to pH 1.6-2.5. The weakly basic salt is preferably an alkali metal carbonate and the alkali metal carbonate is preferably at least one of NaHCO3 and Na2CO3.
