To provide a multilayered steel cord further inexpensive than a conventional one, stabilized in twisted structure, secured in rubber impregnation and high in durability.
A method for producing the steel cord 10 having a multilayer structure having a core 11 composed of one to three filament(s) 12 at the cord center and forming gaps S having an average size of 0.01 mm or greater between adjoining respective filaments 14 and 16 constituting sheaths 13 and 15 is provided. The twisting process of the steel cord 10 in this method includes the following steps: A bath for collecting rubber cement G is set between a feeder of core filaments 12 and a twisting machine. At least one of the core filaments 12 is immersed in the rubber cement bath. The twisting machine is operated while forming a rubber cement coating layer R of a predetermined thickness on the surface(s) of the core filament(s) to twist the core filament(s) 12 and the sheath filaments 14 and 16 together.
