To provide a new method for producing a steroid compound.
The present invention provides a method for producing 5β-3,7-dioxocholanic acid or its ester derivative by passing through the following four steps (I) to (IV) by using cholesta-5,7,24-trien-3β-ol or ergosta-5,7,24(28)-trien-3β-ol, desmosterol or fucosterol, ergosta-5,24(28)-diene-3β-ol which are sterols having double bonds at 5 position and 24 position as a raw material: (I) a step for carrying out oxidation of hydroxy group at 3 position and isomerization of double bond at 5 position to 4 position, (II) a step for introducing a carboxyl group or its ester derivative to a site at 24 position by oxidative cleavage of side chain, (III) a step for introducing an oxygen functional group to a site at 7 position and (IV) a step for carrying out 5β three-dimensional construction by reductive saturation of double bond at 4 position.
