Abstract:

To provide a method for producing synthetic silica powder, in which silica powder having a large particle size is produced with good productivity in a method for producing synthetic silica powder by hydrolysis of silicon tetrachloride.

The method for producing synthetic silica powder includes producing synthetic silica in a slurry state by the reaction of silicon tetrachloride mixed in a nonpolar organic solvent with saturated hydrochloric acid, cleaning the synthetic silica slurry, filtering, disintegrating the slurry in a cake state, pressing and hardening, granulating, followed by disintegrating, drying and firing. Preferably, the synthetic silica in a slurry state is cleaned by use of pure water containing 1 to 5% ammonium hydroxide and 1 to 5% hydrogen peroxide, and then pressurized.
