Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing terephthalic acid capable of subjecting waste water containing turbidity generated from a terephthalic acid production process to membrane separation processing, and efficiently making processed separated water into a highly concentrated slurry to reuse it for the terephthalic acid production process.SOLUTION: The method of producing terephthalic acid comprises a membrane separation process for subjecting waste water discharged from a terephthalic acid production process including at least an oxidation reaction process for oxidizing p-xylene in the presence of a metal compound to obtain raw terephthalic acid to membrane separation processing in a process tank provided with a separation membrane inside thereof to separate into a separated water and a membrane-permeated water where the temperature of the waste water subjected to membrane separation processing is not lower than 40°C and not higher than 60°C, and the membrane separation processing is done while the waste water is made to flow on the surface of the separation membrane.
