Abstract:

To provide a method for producing tetronic acid useful as intermediates for fine chemicals such as pharmaceuticals or agrochemicals, and as semiconductor resist polymers.

The tetronic acid represented by formula (2) is obtained through a reaction of 4-hydroxy- or 4-alkoxy-acetoacetic acid or an ester thereof. The reaction is carried out in the absence of water by using an organic solvent and an acid.
