Abstract:

To provide an excellently electrically conductive thermoelectric material consisting of a sintered body of a calcium/cobalt-layered oxide single crystal.

This manufacturing method of the thermoelectric material comprises the steps of (1) manufacturing a film containing many calcium/cobalt-layered oxide single crystal flakes with flat surfaces arranged in the same plane by an organic binder, wherein the flakes of at least 50 wt.% have sizes on a sieve with 4 mm sieve opening in the sieving method of JISZ8801; (2) manufacturing film pieces by cutting the film; (3) laminating and packing the film pieces so that their planes are horizontal; (4) manufacturing a presintered body by heating the film pieces packed in a molding die under pressurization; (5) removing the binder by heating the presintered body; and (6) carrying out an electric discharge plasma sintering process on the condition that the treating time being 1-8 hours under the uniaxial pressurization of 30-60 MPa, after packing the presintered body with removed binder in the molding die.
