Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thin liquid crystal display element capable of producing a thin liquid crystal display element with good productivity without causing trouble due to use of an etching solution (waving of a glass substrate, surface crazing or remaining of the etching solution on a surface).
SOLUTION: An element assembled by bonding a pair of glass substrates to each other by way of a sealant is prepared, wherein the glass substrates have an area corresponding to two or more liquid crystal display elements. Alternatively, a pair of glass substrates having an area corresponding to two or more liquid crystal display elements are bonded to each other by way of a sealant to assemble an element, one liquid crystal display element of a prescribed size is cut out of the element and an element with a protected terminal is prepared. A step A in which both faces or one face of the glass substrates of the above element or the element with a protected terminal is rough-polished by chemical polishing is carried out and then a step B in which the glass substrates passed through the step A are intermediate-and finish-polished by mechanical polishing is carried out.
