Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing titanium by which metallic titanium having high purity can be obtained directly from a titanium compound containing titanium oxide and processes can easily be made into a continuous process.
SOLUTION: The titanium compound containing titanium halide or titanium oxide is used as the raw material, and the titanium compound is reduced to produce titanium. At this time, in an electrolytic vessel 10 having an electrolytic bath 11 containing the molten salt of active metal, the molten salt is electrolyzed to produce a reducing agent 16 consisting of the active metal or active metal alloy. The titanium compound 18 dipped into the electrolytic bath 11 is reduced by electrons released from the reducing agent 16, so that the titanium is obtained.
