To provide a method for effectively producing a specific transition metal compound useful as a catalyst component for olefin polymerization.
This method for producing the transition metal compound is provided by performing the following "process 1" and "process 2" in this order. [The process 1]: For example, a process of converting a ligand (2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(9H-fluoren-9-yl)phenol) to a dianionic ligand (L) (potassium(2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(9H-fluoren-9-yl)phenoxide) by reacting with potassium hydride. [The process 2]: A process of preparing a transition metal compound (2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(9H-fluoren-9-yl)phenoxy)titanium dichloride) by reacting the di-anionic ligand (L) obtained in the previous [process 1] with a transition metal compound (titanium tetrachloride).
