To provide a method for a water-absorbing composite by which water- absorbing composite having good absorbing ability can preferably be produced without impairing softness of a substrate and to provide the water-absorbing composite.
An aqueous solution comprising a water-soluble monomer mainly composed of an acrylic acid and/or an acrylic acid salt and a photopolymerization initiator is irradiated with ultraviolet rays. Thereby, a part of the water-soluble monomer is polymerized to form a prepolymer. A crosslinking agent and the photopolymerization initiator are added to the prepolymer and the mixture is applied onto a fibrous substrate. The substrate to which the prepolymer is applied is irradiated with ultraviolet rays. Thereby, the prepolymer is polymerized and crosslinked to provide the water-absorbing composite in which an absorbing resin is fixed on the substrate.
