Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method of production for an aryl sulfone expressed by general formula (III), useful for synthetic intermediate of medicine, agrochemical, etc.
SOLUTION: This method reacts a halogenating agent to an alcohol expressed by general formula (I) and then reacts with an aryl sulfonic acid salt expressed by general formula (II) in the presence of an iodine compound catalyst to obtain the aryl sulfone expressed by general formula (III). RCH2OH (I) (In the formula R is an organic group such as an alkyl group.) ArSO2M (II) (In the formula Ar is a (substituted) aryl group, M is an alkali metal.) RCH2SO2Ar (III).
